There are many local ponds and lakes in the greater Portland area that provide an excellent setting for learning about the many organisms that thrive there. We'll travel to several ponds and lakes to catch fish, salamanders, turtles, frogs, bugs, etc. and study them up close. Although an emphasis on catch-and release of all animals is encouraged, we will also show you how to create a simple terrarium throughout the week so that in the future you'll be able to do the same on your own when you want to observe and study these animals up close for short periods of time. Studying and collecting bugs may sound a little creepy, but it can, like it did for me, become an educational hobby and passion of sorts. If you are interested in the adventure of observing, collecting, and displaying such treasures of nature, this is a great opportunity for you to learn how. Go away from camp with your own pinned collection of bugs that will last for years.
